Need a multi-cultural experience to start your post Thanksgiving week off right? Check out Cafe Tacuba tonight at House of Blues.
Hailing from Naucalpan, Mexico, CafeTabuca is a feisty quartet that mixes Latin hip-hop with alternative rock in a way guaranteed to get your feet to moving no matter how much turkey you've ingested recently.
Lead by Ruben Isaac Albarran Ortega, the group was originally called Alicia Ya No Vive Aqui in tribute to Martin Scorsese's film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Once renamed Cafe Tambua, the band released its self-titled debut in 1992. The band's fourth effort, 2003's Cuatro Caminos was produced by Dave Fridmann and Andrew Weiss, both known for their work with American rock artists Flaming Lips, Weezer and Ween.
To boot, Sino, Cafe Tacuba's most recent effort, won two Latin Grammy Awards and showed the band continuing to grow, incorporating new ska and rap influences into the mix. With the weather taking a cooler turn, the warm grooves of Cafe Tacuba tonight might be the preemptive cure for your impending seasonal affective disorder woes.
