As a countdown to the Dallas Observer's "Best of Dallas" 2010, City of Ate is serving up 100 of the favorite dishes we crave, savor and hope to scarf down again soon. These dishes are in no particular order. Some are little known, others celebrated. Some are pricey, others can be eaten on the cheap, but all are delicious to the extreme. No. 44: Ricotta Cheese Blueberry Pancakes at Villa-O
If simple is good, then Villa-O's Ricotta Cheese Blueberry Pancakes are the embodiment of simple at its best. And, when organic is done right, the result can be food at its finest. While other parts of Villa-O's organic menu remain inconsistent, they seem to have perfected the art of the pancake. The perfect pancake is defined by a fluffy interior encased in a buttery golden crisp exterior. Villa-O accomplishes this to a tasty T, all while enhancing their homemade pancakes with the addition of creamy ricotta and plump blueberries. The result is a balance of creamy, airy and buttery goodness, with an occasional burst of sweetness from a bite of the blueberries. A drizzle of organic maple syrup completes this delightful brunch dish. The rub? It's only offered on their Saturday-Sunday brunch menu. It is certainly a yummy way to start off a weekend morning.
