We reported last week that Guy Fieri was in town to promote Santo Tequila, a boozy collaboration with rocker Sammy Hagar. The restaurateur, most known for his platinum spikes and Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, hosted a meet-and-greet at Spec's.
But perhaps he had other businesses in town as well. CultureMap's Teresa Gubbins, through an anonymous source, reports that the TV personality was also in town filming new episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Fieri has previously shown a lot of love for North Texas restaurants, including Louie's, Twisted Root, Avila's, Pepe and Mito's, Maple and Motor, Cane Rosso, Pecan Lodge, Afrah, One90 Smoked Meats, Chop House Burgers (in Arlington) and many more.
Fieri visited Palmer's Hot Chicken early last year. If you're interested in joining the Triple D fan club and making restaurant pilgrimages, you can track all the restaurants at Flavortown, USA.
Getting a spot on the popular Food Network show is big for any restaurant. Chef Kenny Mills of Chop House Burgers, which was featured a decade ago, told us last year that every time the show is replayed he sees up to a 20% jump in business. And that's long after the initial big bump.
So, it's not a big surprise Fieri is back in Texas, particularly after the state's recent appearance in the Michelin Guide.
Gubbins rooted through the internet and other sources for a list of seven restaurants Fieri supposedly visited. It's impossible to confirm because restaurants must sign non-disclosure agreements.
There's also a FoodNetwork Reddit page, which reports six restaurants have "been observed enacting sudden closures," including Soulman's Bar-B-Que in Pleasant Grove and Slow Bone in West Dallas, which we wholeheartedly agree deserves a shot at the show because of that pork chop.
