Every so often, we employ here at the Dallas Observer reporters who are not what you might call “of a Texas persuasion.” East and West Coast natives. Yankees. Also, every so often, one of these bright, young people — from parts of the world where the Second Amendment is not deeply embraced — will propose doing a Big Story on the Gun Show Phenomenon. “Ohmygawd,” they say. “There are like tons of guns and knives and guys wearing camo and WWII stuff. It’s so … weird.” And the older hands here politely explain: “No. It’s just a gun show. If they were wearing tuxes and selling fish, that’d be weird.” All this is a long-winded way of saying that the Dallas Arms Collectors Association is hosting one of the region’s many gun shows this weekend at Market Hall, 2200 Stemmons Freeway. There will be lots and lots of guns at DACA’s Gun, Knife and Military Show, as well as military memorabilia and vehicles on display. Go, if you want one (a gun or knife, we mean). Or go if you’re unfamiliar with what a well-armed citizenry looks like. Try not to hyperventilate. The show is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, free for kids, military and new or renewing National Rifle Association members. Visit dallasarms.com.
