One time when a bunch of ragtag children got together, they decided to march off to the Crusades. They marched onto a ship while singing, and from there things didn't go so well--most of them were sold into slavery. But I'm pretty sure that's not how things are going to go down in Casa Manana's production of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. In this version of the story (not related to the Claymation one), DeBiggy Toy Company gets a judge to outlaw Santa. This is where the ragtag band of dancing, singing children comes in, and as the story bounces from the North Pole to Acapulco, they save the day. There's no child slavery, and everybody gets presents for Christmas. The musical was written by North Texans Joel Ferrell, Lindy Heath Cabe and Elaine Davidson, so if the dancing and singing don't get you, turn out to support your local talent. Of course you could just support your local sheriff instead, like in that James Garner Western, but will there be dancing? Nope. So go on and see the show. Casa Manana is located at 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth. Tickets are $17 to $19. Call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org for more information.
First Friday-Sunday of every month; Wednesdays, 7 p.m. Starts: Nov. 6. Continues through Dec. 23, 2009
