This weekend's Body, Mind & Spirit Expo appears harmless enough, but make no mistake—this is no NBC-5/Telemundo Health Fit Expo. Despite being billed as focusing on "natural health, personal growth, [and] metaphysics," a closer examination of the event and its exhibitors reveals a deeper, darker truth. Vibrational medicine? Past-life readings? Transmission meditation? Clearly, this is a convention for suburban space witches. To dismiss it as hokum would be cruel though not wholly incorrect. Beneath the self-help vibe, Body, Mind & Soul's theme of "Be the Change" can barely conceal its own inherent malarkey. But you could probably say the same thing about that Learning Annex Real Estate Wealth Expo. People will put faith in any number of things, be it religion or drugs or professional sports franchises. Who's to question the validity of harnessing your chakra to find the perfect house pet and achieve eternal oneness? The Body, Mind & Spirit Expo radiates from within this Saturday and Sunday at the Richardson Civic Center, 411 W. Arapaho Road.
