With Hurricane Sandy’s recent destruction, airlines were forced to do some major rescheduling of flights — something that anyone who flies American has already grown accustomed to. It’s unlikely that those waiting in the terminals were struck by the beauty of the departure/arrival boards, unless one of the waiting was Irish artist Gary Farrelly. He has a new show opening on Friday at RO2 Art Downtown (110 N. Akard St.) called Terminal Compositions, in which Farrelly takes a step back from the baggage claim and looks at traveling’s components from a remove. From his expanded vision he’s able to see the visual pleasure of patterns, bureaucracy and highly fretted-over flight blueprints. The show looks both humorous and lovely, a reminder that our stresses and best-laid plans could just as easily be seen as art if watched by a distant being. Arrival time is 7 p.m. with all gates closing at 10 p.m. It’s free to attend this opening, but RSVP to [email protected]. This show runs through December 8.
