There was a time when being a royal male meant more than helping to camouflage a baby bump or dodging zoom lenses on exotic Grecian islands. Not many years ago, being royalty meant being a proper diplomat, strategizing with heads of state and spending every spare moment attempting to wrangle a half-ton beast into chasing a ball across a field. That shit was important. They don’t call polo the “sport of kings” for nothing, you know. A combination of regal attitudes on the field and highfalutin fashion off, it’s quite the event for nobility. It’s also a great excuse for us common folk to get dressed up and swill Champagne in the stands, and the Annual Beverly Drive Polo Cup and Concorso from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday gives just that opportunity. Watch the ponies engage in their majestic pursuits on the green, or tour the Concorso for a glimpse of exotic and luxury cars fit for kings. The divots will fly at the Prestonwood Polo and Country Club, 525 Yacht Club Road in Oak Point. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased online at prestonwoodpolo.com.
