For most cat owners, purchasing a pet bed is, at best, wishful thinking. You really think Fluffy is going to curl up on some fancy cushioned item when there are perfectly good places already available for his daily 20 hours of napping? Say, for instance, the handmade quilt your late granny stitched, your kitchen counters or that navy blue suit you laid out in preparation for tomorrow’s job interview. Still, there is a good reason to shell out bucks for a fancy pet bed — to help support Operation Kindness, North Texas’ oldest no-kill animal shelter. The organization is holding a crazy pet bed contest as part of its Artists for Animals benefit, 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Addison Conference Center, 15650 Addison Road. The maker of the winning hand-crafted bed gets $250, and the rest of us get a chance to bid on the entries, purchase images by portrait photographer Teresa Berg, hear music from members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and sip wine (good for soothing nerves frayed upon finding your job interviewer has serious cat hair allergies). Tickets are $50, and more information is available at operationkindness.org.
