Queue up the banjo, pour yourself some moonshine and get real comfy-like, because the Clampetts are coming to North Texas, where the Garland Civic Theatre is hosting its own version of The Beverly Hillbillies based on the classic television show,. There's nothing more entertaining than watching country bumpkins stumble upon large sums of money. I mean, NASCAR is pretty popular, right? Of course I jest, but seriously, come out to see Jed, Daisy May, Elly May and the dense but lovable Jethro Bodine get into an array of predicaments after they strike oil on their land and relocate to Beverly Hills. After all, Elly May needs some quality refineryment. After the show, if you haven't had your fill, rent the 1993 movie version with Jim Varney, Diedrich Bader and Cloris Leachman. We are in Texas after all; heck, you should embrace the Clampetts' bona fide country nature. The play runs from Thursday through March 28 at the Granville Arts Center, located at 300 N. Fifth St. in downtown Garland. Get tickets by calling 972-205-2790. For additional information, check out garlandcivictheatre.org.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: March 5. Continues through March 28, 2009
