Late last night, police say, four strangers broke into the home of a southern Dallas man looking to rob the house. They wound up killing him -- in front of the man's daughter.

Jesse Barragan, 54, was in his bedroom when the men -- three of them black, one Latino -- arrived shortly before midnight, police say. They encountered Barragan's adult daughter outside the house, at 4618 Lizzy Drive, and forced her inside.

Barragan heard the noise from his bedroom, police say, and when he tried to stop the robbers, one shot him. Barragan's daughter called 911 five minutes after midnight. By the time the police arrived on the scene, the four men had fled and Barragan was already dead.

Police interviewed witnesses and neighbors, but little else is known about the suspects.
