I never understood why Iron Chef didn't do a broke college student-themed episode. (Or maybe I just missed it.) But imagine the fright in Chef Todd English's eyes when he's given a 79-cent Taco Bell burrito--a delicacy in my kitchen--and told "Tick, tock, Todd." Every time I open my fridge is like being given the cruelest Iron Chef challenge yet. Could be the white and green garden growing in my Tupperware or that someone probably drank the last Silver Bullet. Either way, I feel better about it when I bow to my audience (a cat named Zoe), wield a knife at my competition (six housemates) and let those creative juices marinate a cold slab of tofu. On Thursday, there's a chance to step out of the oven-vent-spotlight and watch two teams of Central Market Plano chefs go head-to-head in a three-course cookery battle. You'll learn new techniques and cooking tips, and can sample the cuisine. Class starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 320 Coit Road and costs $55.
