Last night, Dallas Observer staff kicked off a new collab and tapped a keg of Off the Record Amber Ale at Community Beer Company. Observer members both old and new joined us for the celebration.
The beer is now on tap at the brewery, and it’s quite tasty. Even better, a dollar from each pint sold comes right back to us.
The Dallas Observer has run a free and unfettered newsroom since 1980. We post news online every day, sometimes every hour, covering important issues around Dallas and beyond. We also deliver 25,000 free copies to newsstands around the city every week.
It’s a dynamic and interesting time to be in the news business. We’re adapting where necessary and holding steady where that’s best.
This year, we’ve leaned into our membership program, which is in part designed to support our newsroom financially. More importantly, it gets us face-to-face with our readers, like at our Ramble Room supper club, where we enjoyed a special chef-driven menu, champagne and wine, and made many new friends. Conversations are swift, quick and smart. I encourage you to check one out; our next supper club is at Ayahuasca Cantina in October.
Support Local Journalism
There’s never been a better time to support a local newsroom. To become a member and join us at future members-only events, all you have to do is make a contribution of any amount, and it can be one-time or recurring.

Off the Record will be on tap until it runs out, and a dollar from each pint sold goes directly back to our newsroom.

About the Beer
We tested many samples and landed on this one for its nice balance between malt and hops, which complements the traditional amber’s caramel and toasty notes. We worked hard on picking a name, playing with alt-weekly daily news coverage puns, but ultimately we went with Off the Record Amber Ale as a nod to the most salacious news bits: our favorite conversations are off the record.
Community Beer is one of the original breweries that helped North Texas usher in a craft beer wave just over a decade ago. Its Mosaic IPA is a stalwart in the local beer scene. The open-space brewery was built with the community in mind; it’s a gathering space for friends and parties and there are always a good number of dogs when the weather is decent. More recently, it launched a line of spirits, including a vodka, agave silver and whiskey.
Off the Record will be on tap until it runs out, so head over soon. And if you get a pint, post a pic on social media and be sure to tag us. A huge thanks to Community Beer for the collab, and thanks to all of our readers and craft beer lovers in advance for your support of local journalism.
