People think reporters have sources. Maybe some of them do. I don't work that way. I have anti-sources. The only way I get on to something good is when people try not to tell me.
An elected offficial says, "Not much happening here really, Jim." Translation: Teenage girlfriend finally blabbed about Bahamian slush fund. If he uses the phrase, "Same old, same old," hit all the fire alarms: Indictments are imminent.
So I get this sort of semi-mysterious press release today about a Trinity River-related press conference that city councilperson Angela Hunt is holding at noon tomorrow at Crow Park in the river bottoms (Sylvan Boulevard at Irving Boulevard), "to discuss the future of the toll road proposed to be built in the Downtown Trinity Park."
I call Brooks Love, formerly of the city secretary's office, now a hotshot political consultant, whose name is on the press release, and I ask what it's about. I mean, I've only been obsessed with this project for about 200 years. He tells me it's about "the future of the toll road."
Yeah, what about the future?
I don't want to go to Crow Park for anything less than a human sacrifice. And usually that's just on the weekends.
He tells me, "Come to the press conference."
I called Hunt. No luck there, either. Very coy, very coy. I like coy. It amuses me.
O.K., this is something good. It's not a duck hunt, and it's not an open-air seminar. Angela Hunt is up to something, which she's not telling me about, which is a good thing, because then I know it's something.
She's smart enough, I hope, not to lure the media down there in order to announce another damn lawsuit. If that's all it is, she needs to also cut off all her hair on camera.
