The rain on Sunday September 25th didn’t stop the annual Dallas Carnival celebration. The Carnival celebration is one of the most important cultural traditions in the Caribbean culture and is now a regular celebration among Dallas' Caribbean-American population. The parade on Sunday included dozens of masqueraders in traditional attire representing Caribbean and Central American countries some of which included Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, USVI, Jamaica, Guyana, and other islands. The masqueraders paraded around the Joe Pool Lake area dancing to Soca music and waving flags that represented their heritage. The event also included live music and food vendors selling traditional dishes native to the islands including Jerk Chicken and Meat Patties. This parade was the ending of a 4 day series of celebrations focused on celebrating a Caribbean style Carnival in Dallas.
