What a hot week. Monday started with news of a fire at the Panda Express in NorthPark Center. I just got off the phone with an employee there and they told me the location would be reopening this weekend. Greasy shopping mall egg rolls will be back to normal soon. With that out of the way, let's wrap up this week so we can enjoy the last weekend before those triple-digits come.
This week I reviewed Oak in the Design District. If you haven't been yet you really ought to get there soon. And if you have been you might want to go back. The menu changes often, and the specials are quite good.
Elsewhere on CoA we marked the opening of Nora, a new restaurant from the folks behind Afghan Grill. Something tells me this is going to be a good one. And SNACK added a late night taco menu to their offering. I'm feeling another smackdown coming on.
Lauren interviewed Michael Ehlert and discovered the chef's disdain for hamburgers. I bet he's glad he's not working at this restaurant. His new menu at Campo has been in effect for a few weeks now.
Over on the Eats Blog Leslie Brenner is back in business. She reviewed Javier's this week, and after a single visit I share her lack of understanding of the restaurant's popularity. I'm telling you that red salsa tastes just like SpaghettiO's.

On Side Dish Nancy Nichols gets personal with her review of Sissy's, comparing a pimento cheese time machine to top-dollar therapy, and she ranks a slice of chocolate cake above her past sexual experiences. She also delves deep into owner Lisa Garza's relationship with chef Jeffry Hobbs and her personal life before opening her temple to fried chicken. It's a good read.

And Oh, HEY DALLAS doesn't like heat. And while that on it's own isn't much of a revelation, her look at Coolhaus is pretty tempting. I just don't want to have to walk more than a block to grab an ice cream sandwich when it's 104 degrees outside. Maybe they'll park in Oak Lawn some time. Maybe.
