There seems to be a new unwritten rule of comedy that if you want to make an audience laugh, you have to show them that you have enough energy to bounce around the room like a pinball on a meth bender. Comedian Margaret Smith can get twice as many laughs as the new breed of hyper comedians and she barely moves off her spot. She's also more than just a seasoned comedian who has mined her deadpan material and delivery for years. She's a six-time Emmy winner who wrote for and produced Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, a published author and an actress with credits to her resume including The Blob, Bound and Goodfellas. She'll be performing four sets at Hyena's Comedy Nightclub (5321 E. Mockingbird Ln.) at 8:30 and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday . Tickets are $10 to $15 each at prekindle.com.
Fri., Sept. 26, 8:30 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 27, 8:30 p.m., 2014
