Do you like stories about a minority overcoming racial barriers to succeed in a particular field? Because that sounds sort of like Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story, a documentary narrated by Dustin Hoffman that will be screened at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas Sunday. On the other hand, it sounds more like a romance than an overcoming-steep-odds movie. This one-time screening is for all of you fans of baseball, Jewish people, and American History in general. Like many fresh immigrants from Ireland and Italy in the early part of the 20th century, European Jews quickly fell into the loving arms of America's favorite past-time. This documentary captures the contributions both cultures made to each other over the span of the last hundred years. The documentary features interviews from many of the greats, like Yogi Berra and Sandy Koufax, who will no doubt reveal that the sport of baseball valued Jews before everyone else thought it was cool. The center is located at 7900 Northaven Road, and if you get there at 6 p.m., you can partake in the ballpark buffet, and stuff yourself with kosher goodness. The movie starts thirty minutes later.
