Like No Other

Every year The Dallas Opera puts together a summer-long shindig to prep everyone for its upcoming season. This year's Baritones & Beachballs will get local opera fans on course for the 2010-2011 season, Dangerous Desires, which will include a production of Gaetano Donizetti's Anna Bolena, the tale of everyone's favorite second wife. The Dallas Opera, joining forces with Dallas Film Society, presents a free screening of The Other Boleyn Girl, the 2008 Justin Chadwick film starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana. Based on the popular 2002 novel by Philippa Gregory, The Other Boleyn Girl is full of all of the bells, whistles and artistic license good historical fiction should have (with a heavy emphasis on the fiction part), but it's got nothing on Anna Bolena, even without that pesky "other" Boleyn girl, Mary. Consider this a complimentary appetizer for the feast that will be TDO's new season and check out the free screening Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Studio Movie Grill, 11170 N. Central Expressway. Call 214-443-1044 or visit dallasopera.org to RSVP to the event.
