Well, this kinda came out of nowhere: Next week--a week from tomorrow, in fact--the Old 97's will release a four-song covers EP, called Mimeograph, via New West Records. The album, which comes before the band's planned double-album release this fall, finds the old Dallas favorites covering The Rolling Stones, The Fratellis, REM and David Bowie.

For a full track listing--and to pre-order the disc--check the album's Amazon page. You can listen to a few of the harmlessly fun tracks on that page, too.

Oh, and, if you've got, say, 30 minutes or so to spare and are hankering for more info on the band's next release of original material, check this three-part interview with 97's frontman Rhett Miller and Salim Nourallah, which finds the band essentially confirming the album title we've been anticipating (The Grand Theatre) and the fact that it will be a double-disc release after all--the band's first. Of course, we've been figuring as much since we visited the band back during its initial recording session at Sons of Hermann Hall, but it's nice to get some confirmation on that front.
