Chewing The Fat: Wednesday Ground 'Round

This week's roundup is a little heavy on beverage news. Don't worry, we haven't found more urine-based drinks--yet. But we did stumble on some good news from US Airways and a handy DIY for those of you who can't afford home brewing kits.

  • At last, US Airways decided to give coach-class customers free soft drink service again. Order plenty of coffee to stay awake, though, because pillows still cost extra.
  • These days, the economy is bad enough to drive a man to drinking. Then again, most of us probably can't afford to splurge on non-essentials like booze...what the hell am I saying? Well, if you're tired of resorting to Nyquil and mouthwash, we've got a recipe for you. It's called kuchikami sake. If nothing else, it might make a good hobby for prison inmates.
  • And now for the bad news. A British study offers evidence that alcohol consumption increases the likelihood of cancer for women. We're not in the habit of making predictions around here, but we've gotta wonder if this won't lead to a new marketing campaign for acai-based liquor. In the meantime, maybe it's time for researchers to start looking into things that don't cause cancer.
