The Dallas Morning News' Leslie Brenner reported this week that the long-awaited In-N-Out Burgers near Frisco and Allen, the California chain's first foray into the DFW area, is set to open next week. But what about those of us who consider Frisco a bit too near the edge of civilization (i.e. close to Oklahoma) to make the trek? When, oh when, will the Dallas Central Expressway location open?

Answer: Later this month, we are being told by folks at the company's Tracy, California, headquarters.

This means fewer than 30 days until Double-Double burgers and "animal style" fries. And to tide you over, here is our unofficial recipe for animal style sauce. Do try this at home, kids.

3 tablespoons mayonnaise 1 tablespoon ketchup 2 teaspoons pickle relish 1/2 teaspoon vinegar 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Combine and spread, makes up to two happy diners.

No word yet on other DFW In-N-Out locations.

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
