It was just last spring that legendary indie rockers Yo La Tengo graced our area with a sublime acoustic concert at the Dallas Museum of Art. Fans might also recall the ear-shredding performance the band gave at the Granada Theater on Easter in 2007.

Well, now Yo La Tengo frontman Ira Kaplan sends word about him and his wife (and Tengo drummer Georgia Kaplan) participating in the Multiple Sclerosis Bike Tour taking place on October 5 in New York City.

“We will be riding 30 miles around Manhattan, unless one or both of us decides to go wild and make a dash through the Lincoln Tunnel and take a spin around New Jersey too,” writes Ira.

Now, neither Kaplan looks that athletic to me, but they are doing it for a good cause. And, of course, the couple is looking for sponsors for this trek. Interested parties can go to here to contribute to Georgia's ride and here to pledge for Ira's.

After the race, the band is heading across the Pacific for shows in Taiwan and Korea, but Ira says a Dallas show could happen next spring--although whether the sublime or ear-shredding form of the band shows is anybody’s guess. --Darryl Smyers
