We'll get back to election news in a moment, but we did want to mention a note we received from Major League Soccer last night. Looks like hometowners The Polyphonic Spree will perform the song "Mental Cabaret," from the band's forthcoming Fragile Army, during the pre-game show for the Major League Soccer Cup 2006. That, apparently, is a game during which the New England Revolution will play the Houston Dynamo Saturday for the MLS title. Happens Sunday at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco at 2:20 p.m. I know. Exciting stuff.
The Spree's slot isn't as hot the gig given to Under the Influence of Giants, some L.A. band playing the halftime show in front of a national TV audience (meaning the 394 sets tuned to ABC on Sunday afternoon, when no one watches football). Someone help me out here. What am the Dynamo? Who be the Revolution? Why are soccer? --Robert Wilonsky
