When was the last time you saw a film with a female protagonist you felt like you could actually relate to? You know what I'm talking about. The film world is saturated with rom-com, super women, nymphomaniac, unemployed but NYC-dwelling bull shit. Where are the normal women? Complaints aside, there are high hopes for Jenny Slate's character in Obvious Child, which opens in Dallas June 20.

If it lives up to expectations (which people who saw it at DIFF say that it does), we'll want to give big hugs Jenny Slate and film writer/director Gillian Robespierre. If it doesn't, we'll want to raise our hand - Lean In style - and ask what the hell went wrong? Luckily, we'll have the chance to see the movie and meet those two headstrong ladies this Thursday at the Obvious Child screening at the Angelika Film Center, thanks to Central Track and A24. Here's the RSVP information.
