You might want to bring a fan. While a portion of the back kitchen is modestly air conditioned, the storefront where you'll be waiting for your guisado verde tacos is stifling. You might want to grab a bottle of Coke, or Topo Chico the second you walk through the door too. It's as hot as a sauna most days at La Nueva Fresh and Hot -- and even hotter when the tortilla machine is running full tilt.
It's worth it the second you get a double-stacked tortilla bursting with braised pork simmered in a light green tomatillo sauce. The tortillas are a little bland, but the soft pillowy texture reminds me a bit of flour tortillas. Hit it with a little onion and cilantro for some crunch, and a little of the red salsa you'll get on the side for heat. If the red stuff really works for you, there's a guisado rojo taco available as well, but I promise, it's not as good.
