Because You Can't Get Enough Politics

You got into an argument with your hairdresser because you ate at Chick-Fil-A and he doesn’t appreciate the chain’s conservative agenda. Your boss just forwarded an email that refers to “No-Bama” no less than five times. You don’t give a shit about being liberal or conservative — you just want to eat your waffle fries and open email without the political rhetoric. But we have nearly six months of negative campaigning and culture wars ahead of us. And for what? So we can fight amongst ourselves and still send a bunch of salespeople to D.C. to make a further mockery of our great democracy? The Capitol Steps have the answer to those questions … and their cheerful sing-song delivery won’t really make you feel any better. The group of former political staffers covers recent political scandals in song parodies (“Harpin’ Bout the GSA” to the tune of “Harper Valley PTA,” for example) and runs through their “Lirty Dies” routine that’s half pig Latin, half campaign speech. If you want to turn off the political noise, stay outside and splash in the reflecting pool. But if you can stomach the satire, march up to The Capitol Steps, performing at the Wyly Theater in the AT&T Performing Arts Center (2403 Flora St.) 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
