Remember that time you were hanging out at that house party, and your friend handed you a mysterious blue pill? The last thing you remember is walking down a narrow hallway, and everything started swirling and changing colors--then you woke up on your couch. That trippy experience might be the only thing relatable to the Magnolia at the Modern's latest film, Wild Grass. One minute, it's a crazy comedy that'll have you giggling like a schoolgirl, the next--you'll be holding on to your seat from the plot's sudden thrills. And before you know it, you're tearing up from the film's unexpected love story. The story follows Marguerite Muir, a dentist, and an unemployed, middle-aged man named Georges Palet. The two find themselves entangled in an unpredictable encounter--which throws them into a situation they couldn't have imagined in their wildest dreams. The director, Alain Resnais, first debuted 50 years ago with Hiroshima mon amour, a film about a steamy love affair between a French actress and a Japanese architect. This film promises the same gripping intensity--with some wild surprises along the way. Check it out for yourself Friday at 6 and 8 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m., and Sunday at 2 and 4 pm.
