One of the only good things to come from Hurricane Katrina was a renewed appreciation for the art and culture that the city of New Orleans has always provided, whether we noticed it or not. The booze and beads were fantastic, but the blues and jazz were the main event. Cinderella said it best when they screeched, "Don't know what you've got till it's gone." And that's a lesson we had to learn the hard way when the levees broke.

From the soggy bottom of the once-great city rises the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a touring time capsule of authentic Louisiana jazz, as set forth by its charter members more than 40 years ago. Named for the music venue located in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter, the band was founded by Allan and Sandra Jaffee in 1961 and has toured the world with the goal of "spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz." If you're a student of jazz, a lover of music or a heeder of Cinderella's prophecy, you'll not want to miss Thursday's performance.
