When I was a very surly teenager of 15, my mother dragged me, kicking and sulking, to a production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Kennedy Center. The underhandedness of the plot and all of the blood (so much blood!) made me a fan. I may have even thanked her afterward, although that seems unlikely. Thirty years later, Sweeney Todd now has a Tim Burton movie under its belt and generations of fans. Thursday through Saturday, Turtle Creek Chorale presents a concert version of the beloved score, performed by over 200 men and women. Performances are at Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St., at 8 nightly, plus a Saturday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $39 and up. Visit turtlecreek.org or call 214-526-3214.
Thu., April 24, 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., April 27, 2 p.m. Starts: April 24. Continues through April 27, 2014
