In the mid-'60s, animation studio Hanna-Barbera produced a televised take on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland that was destined NOT to become a classic. Still, it did feature the voice of Sammy Davis Jr. as the Cheshire Cat, singing “What's a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?” Pity so few remember the song, because it might have fit right in with Alice in Burlesque!, which promises to bring Carroll's story life through movement, costuming and silent acting. This trip to through the looking glass features Trixie Minx, the Alley Oops and the entire cast of Fleur de Tease of New Orleans. Viva Dallas Burlesque, the largest burlesque show in Texas, is a monthly event the first Friday of every month. Follow the White Rabbit down the bunny hole this Friday at Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Road. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $20 for general admission to $175 for VIP tables.
