As you're no doubt aware by now, the City Plan Commission yesterday voted unanimously to change the name of South Central Expressway downtown, between Pacific and Grand Avenues, to César Chávez Boulevard (not Parkway, as originally proposed). The council will now get to vote on the name change, which was initially proposed by Steve Salazar, Pauline Medrano and Delia Jasso back in September after Industrial Boulevard, Ross Avenue and most recently, Young Street were considered.

As Rudy notes, only two people spoke in opposition yesterday, one of whom was Haynes and Boone associate and City View at Farmers Market resident John Farrell, who wants to make it perfectly clear: He's all for recognizing the "great César Chávez," and his objections are purely pragmatic, as you'll see in his footnoted missive to the plan commission after the jump. Nonetheless, Farell says in a note to Unfair Park, "I know it will be approved in the end."
