Here’s great news for anyone who wants to trip their balls off Thursday night, or who can appreciate what the Angelika web site calls “a mind-blowing, almost indescribable mix of fantasy, religious symbolism, horror and humor” without chemicals: The Dallas Angelika Theater will screen a remastered 35-mm print of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s monumental 1973 psychedelic masterpiece The Holy Mountain at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Mwanza Dover, an avid Jodorowsky fan and a longtime local musician whose projects have included Mazinga Phaser and The Frenz, was asked to DJ the event. Instead, he decided to go one better and remix the soundtrack under his Blixaboy DJ handle. The tracks will be posted to his Stereo on Strike blog tomorrow. If you’d like to get a feel for the original material, there are a few trailers and music clips on YouTube, including this one.
“This movie changed my life and I am honored to be a part of the screening of the remastered 35mm print,” Dover wrote in a mass e-mail earlier today. “If you have never seen this film before I highly recommend doing a little google research. Having this in Dallas is a very big deal.” —Jesse Hughey
