No Limit to Reunite at BOOM 94.5 FM's Evolution of Hip-Hop Festival

Remember all the buzz surrounding BOOM 94.5 FM's launch in the fall of 2014? When the classic hip-hop station appeared, unannounced, one weekend in November, it had pretty well everyone talking — and for a hot minute, it wasn't the only station in the game. Fast forward about 15 months and the programming may already be familiar, but there is a new surprise —  festival booking.

That's certainly true of yesterday's announcement for the station's second-annual flagship music festival, which has managed to land a reunion of '90s hip-hop label No Limit Records. That includes the label's founder, Master P, as well as fellow No Limit Soldiers Mystikal, Silkk the Shocker and Mia X.

It's not the first No Limit reunion — that came on the label's 20th anniversary in 2011 — but with talk of another tour BOOM seems to have played its classic hip-hop cards well.
Billed last year as "Classic Hip-Hop Meets Zydeco and the Blues," this year the theme of BOOM 94.5 Festival is "The Evolution of Hip-Hop," and they're not joking around, as they've gone all the way back to Kurtis Blow for one of their headliners. They've also booked other '80s rappers Jalil & Exstacy of Whodini and Big Daddy Kane, as well as a host of old school female MCs including Da Brat, Lil Mo and Yo Yo.

The idea behind "The Evolution" is to touch on each of the five elements of hip-hop, including DJing, beatboxing, break dancing and graffiti, all of which will be showcased at the festival. Texas rappers will be represented as well, thanks to Mike Jones, Lil KeKe and Dallas' Dirty South Rydaz.

"The Evolution" takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at Fair Park. Presale tickets are available now through March 11 for $20, with the price going up to $25 until the day of the show, when they'll be $30 at the door. Tickets are available at boom945.com.
