Dallas chefs and restaurants, which collected an impressive five semi-finalist spots in this year's James Beard Foundation awards competition, today were shut out of the contest's final round. Stephan Pyles, The Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, The French Room, Café on the Green at Las Colinas' Four Seasons Resort and chef Teiichi Sakurai were all on the semi-finalist list issued earlier this year. None of them were among the nominees announced today.

But the awards committee didn't overlook Texas: Bryan Caswell -- who this weekend opened Houston's El Real with former Houston Press critic Robb Walsh -- was nominated for Best Chef in the Southwest, along with Tyson Cole of Uchi in Austin, and Bruce Auden of Biga on the Banks in San Antonio.

Awards will be announced on May 9.
