It seems that every fair, food "palooza" or gluttony fest is dedicated to some kind of food that's really not healthy to eat until it starts oozing out of your ears. We've got nothing against chili cook-offs or rib fests but it would be a nice change of pace for our tastebuds and our bloodstream if someone held a kelp-off or a "Kaleapalooza." That's what always makes East Dallas' Okrapalooza such a nice change of pace. The only local food fest dedicated to the south's favorite vegetables not only features a ton of original okra recipes but guests can also enjoy some local free beer to wash down all the okra. The festival will also feature live performances by Haley Coleman, The Ackermans, Mack Price, Russ Hewitt and Turnstyle. Okrapalooza will start at 11 a.m. Sunday at The Lot, 7530 E. Grand Ave. Tickets are $35 and available at okrapalooza.com.
