This Chili's Just Right

I know you love to judge. You're just a big ol' bag of judgment love. When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got together, you were all, "Isn't he gay?" And when Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston got together, you were all, "Isn't he gay?" Well, crack those judgmental knuckles and stretch out your judgy eyebrows, because the Texas Chefs Association is having a Chili Confrontation at this year's Chile Pepperama Festival, and they need you to pick a winner. Pay $5 for a vote, get to taste every chili and let each contestant know exactly what you think about their concoction (the added bonus, of course, being that this is the first vote you'll have cast in years that will actually count). Once your mouth is sufficiently ablaze and your vote is in, take a break to satisfy your sweet tooth at the bake sale or get crunk at the Pumpkin Ice Cream Crank Off. The 10th annual Chile Pepperama Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Old Town Shopping Center, located on Greenville Avenue between Southwestern and Lovers Lane. Admission and parking are free. And so will your bowels be. Call 972-943-4624 or visit chilepepperama.net.
Sun., Nov. 12, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
KEEP THE DALLAS OBSERVER FREE... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Alice Laussade writes about food, kids, music, and anything else she finds to be completely ridiculous. She created and hosts the Dallas event, Meat Fight, which is a barbecue competition and fundraiser that benefits the National MS Society. Last year, the event raised $100,000 for people living with MS, and 750 people could be seen shoving sausage links into their faces. And one time, she won a James Beard Award for Humor in Writing. That was pretty cool.
