I hope I haven't missed the yearly presentation of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Even as a thirtysomething, there's a certain nostalgia that I gladly suffer watching it. And each time, my heart always goes out to poor Linus. Whether it's suffering at the hand of his verbally abusive sister or being whipped around by a blanket-swiping beagle, he remains optimistic about what life has to offer. But I probably would have been just as pissed as Sally was waiting for the Great Pumpkin instead of getting my trick-or-treats. If there were a Linus, I dare say he might enjoy the Dallas Arboretum's Great Pumpkin Festival, which runs through October 31. Activities, beginning Thursday, include live piano music, hay rides and a petting zoo
and I'm sure there's a great pumpkin in there somewhere. The Dallas Arboretum is located at 8525 Garland Road. Visit dallasarboretum.org or call 214-515-6500 for further information.
