5 Art Events to See this Weekend

FOUND at Level Gallery
After seeing pollution in the ocean, longtime underwater fashion photographer Jeremy McKane decided he wanted to do more than take pretty pictures. Last year he brought art that reads your mind to the McKinney Avenue Contemporary. “Lucid” used an electroencephalogram device to reward a calm mental state with a view of a clean ocean. McKane knows that technological advances can help clean the ocean, but we are currently on track to have one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish in the ocean by 2025. FOUND is McKane’s latest exhibit aimed at raising awareness of this urgent issue and encouraging ocean conservation. See it at Level Gallery (2722 Logan St.) Thursday or through April 23. The exhibit will feature 11 prints as well as found-object sculptures made from pollutants he discovered while photographing secluded beaches. For more info, visit level-gallery.com. 


Fractal Logic 3 at Kettle Art
Kettle Art really is something special. A few times a year, they have events that result in Black Friday-esque crowds, with art collectors forming a line long before their doors open and rushing in to get the best selections, all to support North Texas artists. Renowned sculptor and Texas native George Fowler curates Fractal Logic 3, the third installation of the wildly popular segmented murals series in Deep Ellum. For the exhibit, 21 prominent North Texas painters, photographers and sculptors have created large, unique murals with a dozen individual components that form one cohesive unit. Each individual canvas, photograph or sculpture, most available for under $500, can also stand alone. Fractal Logic 3 takes places at 7 p.m. Thursday at Kettle Art (2650 Main St.). Gallery Improv Night: The Season Jazz Ensemble at CentralTrack
The Season will improvise a set of jazz, blues and funk in response to the artworks of Angelika Trojnarski at CentralTrak gallery. Trojnarski’s paintings recognize parallels between artists and scientists, referencing historical scientific discoveries of the 18th and 19th century that created industrial development. Admission to the event at 8-10 p.m. Friday, 800 Exposition Ave, is free.

Cult of Color at Circuit12 Contemporary 
Cult of Color is a group show of abstract and intensely psychological paintings, the latest from Circuit12 Contemporary (1811 E. Levee St.) featuring work from Arthur Peña, Cody Hudson, Iva Gueorguieva, Jacin Giordano. Lauren Silva, Stephen Ormandy, Timothy Bergstrom and Tomory Dodge. The opening, with many of the artists in attendance, is from 6-10 p.m. Saturday.


Art Fungus at Shotgun With a title that references the fungus that grows in spring, a new space in the Cedars, Shotgun (1717 Gould St.), will have its inaugural exhibit this weekend. Art Fungus will feature work from Thor Johnson, Jason Cohen, Robert Chad Cook, Andy Don Emmons, Clay Stinnett, Erik Schuessler and Jermy Elizabeth Johnson. Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
