As of this week, there are two Dallas-based artists signed to TVT Records: Joining the Polyphonic Spree is rapper Countri Boi, who, says here, expects to release his major-label debut some time in 2007. TVT's site says Countri Boi will release I'm a Boy on August 6 -- though that may be the single, which is currently streaming on Countri's MySpace page.

In a press release issued Tuesday, it says the rapper was born here but raised in Los Angeles, where he "got involved with the L.A. gang lifestyle," prompting his mom to bring him back to Dallas. "I want to give respect to those who put Texas on the map and thank those who supported me," he says in the release. "Being on TVT Records puts me next in line to rep my hometown to the fullest." Oh, and I do believe he used to go by another name: Cuntri Boi. Hard to get that into Wal-Mart, one imagines. --Robert Wilonsky
