To prepare for this fall's Best of Dallas® 2012 issue, we're counting down (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes. If there's a dish you think we need to try, leave it in the comments, or email me.
Too often, bar snacks are relegated to frozen staples, dropped in a deep fryer till they're golden brown and
delicious edible. When a bar takes the time to hand-craft a deep-fried treat it's hard not to notice.
Hand-crafted Jalapeno poppers can be had at the Free Man, but the kitchen leaves the seeds inside the pepper before stuffing them with cheese. The results are so hot I watched a man turn pink while trying to force his way through a plate.
At City Tavern, though, the kitchen does their best to remove most of the seeds and ribs. The poppers are still spicy enough to make you pause about half way through a plate, but mild enough that you'll live to tell about it.
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
