Dispatch from the Trader Joe's Opening in Fort Worth

Teresa Gubbins at Pegasus News had the pre-game analysis of the grand opening of the first Trader Joe's in North Texas this morning.

"Official opening time was 8 a.m. but the line had already begun to form at 5:30 a.m.," wrote Gubbins. By time the opening bell rang, there was "a crowd of more than 200 people, whose enthusiasm was not dampened by a slow, steady wave of rain."

By lunchtime, the place was obviously very packed. How packed?

Imagine twelve cashiers with 30 to 50 people in each of those lines, which snaked through the aisles all the way to the back of the store.

When a line goes all the way down an aisle, well, it sort of compromises other's ability to actually peruse the aisle. And every single aisle had a line. Yes, the store turned into 12 lines.

Some carts were packed and even overflowing, but I couldn't help notice some people standing in line had only four five items in their cart. Like this one cute, little-biddy half-way through the line had bananas, spinach, cherry tomatoes and a bottle of white wine.

How long you been in this line? "Thirty minutes."

Are you from California originally? So, this place like really makes you feel nostalgic, and that's why you fought through the madness in the parking lot, then the store and now half an hour in a line, with another half an hour to go before you actually get to the cashier? For bananas and a side salad with a glass of dry white? "No, I'm from here."

So, you just wanted to see what it was all about? "Yep. Just wanted to check it out."

Did you know that there's a Texas-based grocery store up the road that's really fancy- dancy and you can get all that stuff?

OK, I didn't actually ask her that because she was sweet. I'm a wuss.
