Instrumentalists are a unique breed. Of course we have all played something once or twice at the prodding of our parents and band recruiters, and some of us thought that we were sure to rock the six-string as soon as we picked up a guitar. But, once we realized the amount of practice and discipline that went into actually being good, we traded in our horns and strings for shoes and cell phones and learned to be music enthusiasts instead. Only a special few have the drive to succeed in the music world, and Chris Botti is one of them. The multi-Grammy nominated trumpeter has had a string of career highs all because of his mastery of three little valves, and he'll be blowing through town to show off his skills 8 p.m. Thursday at Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 NextStage Drive. Tickets are $49.50 and are available through Ticketmaster. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
