A Trip to Candy Land

Dallas Pride may be over, but that’s no reason to let the pride stop. Dallas Southern Pride, the city’s biggest black gay pride event, is this weekend, and the theme is “Candy Land: Where Everything is Sweeter and Sexier.” Organizers are expecting 10,000 people to show, and the perfect way to kick it off is the Miss Dallas Southern Pride Pageant at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1015 Elm St., at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, when some magnificent drag queens will set the tone for the weekend. There are family-friendly events, like Saturday’s workshop on building relationships, with author and WNBA player Chamique Holdsclaw (also at Crowne Plaza), and some that are expressly 21 and up, like the Annual Black Pride Pool Party at Park Inn Hotel, 1241 W. Mockingbird Lane (also on Saturday, from 5 to 9 p.m.). For more information and a full list of events, times and locations, visit dallassouthernpride.com.
