If you ask us, traditional Irish bands are best enjoyed in the confines of a pub or at least at a drunken street festival, so forgive us if we don't find the idea of The Irish Rovers concert at the Meyerson a particularly appropriate way to gear up for St. Paddy's Day. Not that the Rovers aren't a fine example of the genre. In fact, they're the band responsible for the most famous recording of Shel Silverstein's immortal "The Unicorn," one of our favorite children's songs and easily one of the most depressing, with magical unicorns dooming themselves to extinction by "playing silly games" as the biblical Noah loads the more mature members of the animal kingdom onto the Ark. So maybe it is the perfect way to gear up for a week of drinking, after all--extinction's as good a reason as any to drown your sorrows, right? See The Irish Rovers 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Tickets are $25 to $60. Visit dallassymphony.com for tickets.
