Avenue Q at Stage West -- They've been selling out Theater Too for the last year and a half, and now those foul-mouthed puppets are taking their show to Fort Worth. Watch them slut up our neighbor city during this limited run.
Colin Quinn, Unconstitutional -- You may remember Colin Quinn from Remote Control, SNL or his own television show. Or maybe you just love his Twitter feed, which coincidentally is the only comedy account that Louis C.K. follows. Whichever way you relate to Quinn, you'll want to see his touring show, Unconstitutional, when it gets a night at the Wyly.
Nature Is The Devil's Church -- Go to this new show by Sam Schonzeit, which previously experienced the awesome working title "Sam Schonzeit's Dominating Nature." Themes of control, power politics and references to Lars Von Trier's Antichrist hold court here at this curious installation, but to understand the rest, you'll just have to go. Lily Taylor with Video Projections by Sean Miller at OFG -- Denton's powerhouse husband/wife team work together for a night of experimental music and art at Oliver Frances Gallery. Go give them a hug, then absorb their creative output.
The Dallas Safari Club's Annual Convention -- This convention is geared towards two kinds of people: Those who enjoy hunting and stalking big game, and those who love posing for selfies in front of aggressively arranged, taxidermy animals. Saturday 1.10 Art Openings All Over The Damn Place -- It's a huge night for Dallas art with most Design District galleries opening new shows, along with The MAC, the Reading Room, 500X and more.
Found Magazine, The Found Footage Festival and A/V Geeks Duke It Out -- What happens when all of our favorite scavengers get together for a finding cage match? A lot of drinking, probably. And spontaneous laughter. And... friendships? Sure, why the Hell not. All of this magic goes down at Texas Theatre.
North Texas Comic Book Comic Con -- Attention fellow nerds: Comic book heroes Tom DeFalco (The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor), Allen Bellman (Captain America) and Ron Marz (Green Lantern) are in town this weekend, accepting your infinite adoration. Go see them -- and scoop up some missing issues to your collection -- at the first install of this graphic-steeped Con.
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Plays Pixar -- Most people remember Randy Newman's crooning additions to Toy Story, but Pixar scores all of its films meticulously. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will bring to life music from 13 different Pixar films, including Wall-E, The Incredibles and A Bug's Life during this daytime show.
Sunday 1.11 Brazil -- Screening as part of the Alamo 100 (the theater company's list of films to see while alive), is this dystopian look at the paperwork-filled life of Sam Lowry. It's at noon, so go easy on that snooze button.
See A Buster Keaton Silent, With Organ Accompaniment -- We're extremely lucky here in Dallas when it comes to appreciation of old silent films. From Plano to Garland and inside the Arts District we find folks dusting them off and airing them out. On Sunday the Lord of Life Lutheran Church will screen hearthrob Buster Keaton's comedy classic, Steamboat Bill Jr. with live organ accompaniment, for free.
