Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
Mark your calendars for June 26-28, girls, boys and foodies. The Texas Restaurant Association's annual Southwest Foodservice Expo is coming to the Dallas Convention Center and with it (aside from yours truly who won't be competing for a title this year due to overbooking) chef Marcus Samuelsson of Red Rooster in Harlem. If you miss your chance at a picture with the studly Ethiopian-Swedish-American chef there's always a chance to have a drink with this much less studly Icelandic-American one.
Browse the exhibitors for the latest in food trends and come with an empty stomach -- TRA exhibits are known for their wealth of booth-side snacking. And if all that doesn't make you want to pay the $20 for a pass, there's always the annual Best Chef Southwest competition and book signings.
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
