Ozempic is making its presence known on menus, and the forecast for dumplings is 100% sunshine.

As in any other culture, food trends in the U.S. and locally evolve constantly. The past year was certainly a banner year for omakases in Dallas. And whipped ricotta (which we are here for). There seem to be fewer "Instagram walls," which perhaps means they're trending out.

As we step into 2025, we can expect to witness new food trends derived from global influences, the rise of health awareness and innovative twists on classic food choices. Here's our list of the food trends for 2025.

The Skinny

Healthy Food: High-Protein and GLP-1 Friendly options
Ohio-based retail company Kroger anticipated that high-protein foods would be one of the top five food trends in 2025. The grocer described this trend as “The Protein Renaissance,” saying that popular staples like chicken, yogurt and cottage cheese will remain prevailing options for protein. It also suggested that customers will show a growing interest in collagen and the incorporation of plant-based proteins such as beans, lentils and hemp seeds.

Dallas-headquartered Smoothie King announced a new GLP-1 Support Menu last month, providing five smoothies that have less sugar and fewer calories than its regular smoothies. This new menu is designed for people using GLP-1 agonists, a class of medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. As people look for more healthy diet options, the GLP-1 menu might be the trend for 2025.

Drink Up

Premium Spirits
Dallas knows its way around a good cocktail, as we learned after the shake fee scandal that walloped the city this summer. Those fees, however, were likely the result of premium liquors, which is on trend. The website for the Bartender Spirits Award writes that "premiumization" will continue to trend in 2025, as consumers are "willing to pay more for high-quality products, with a particular focus on craftmanship, flavor complexity, and brand story." Yep.

Agave for the Win
The Bartender Spirits Award also predicts premium tequilas to be a sector leader. Agave spirits have matured from a party favorite— Shots! Shots! Shots! — to a nice jeans and heels scenario. They also see low and no-alcohol spirits continue to rise as Gen Z and Millennials prioritize mental and physical health (or marijuana).

Carajillo: A New Rival for the Espresso Martini
This is based on our prediction. The espresso martini has long been a staple in cocktail culture, but there's a new contender in town: the carajillo, a cocktail made from espresso and a Spanish liqueur called Licor 43, which is made with 43 ingredients. The result is a mixture of sweet, light vanilla and the rich, dark notes of coffee with the smooth texture of the liqueur. Carajillo is traditionally served in Spain and Latin American countries. As U.S. customers keep seeking unprecedented drinking experiences, the carajillo has charmed espresso martini lovers across the country.

Noods and Dumplings

Ramyun (Korean Instant Noodles)
Ramyun, meaning Korean-style instant noodles, has become a real hit. Scrolling through social media, people are crazy about the variety and the convenience ramyun has to offer. Unlike American-style instant noodles, ramyun has thicker noodles and flavors — and it comes with soup or sauce. Ramyun usually serves as a quick meal or late-night snack, and people love their noodles with a little extra. Popular toppings coming along with ramyun include dumplings, eggs, onions, scallions, spam and kimchi. Locally, we have The Ramyun Library in Carrollton and Denton.

Dumplings: Ever Adaptable
Austin-based grocer Whole Foods Market named dumplings one of the top 10 food trends for 2025. The retailer said dumplings have continued to be popular both on TikTok and restaurant menus, and it’s a trend that people are excited about. Whole Foods Market described dumplings as “ever adaptable,” and we can’t agree more. Dumplings are the fashionistas of the food world: always bringing something new to the table.

Local Menus

Whole-Grilled Fish: Adding New Flavors to Dallas Menus
Dallas, known for its thriving food scene, is embracing a new star: whole-fish dishes. Restaurants across Dallas are adding whole-grilled fish to their menus. Like Uchiko's hearth-grilled whole sea bass with brown butter dashi and fennel. The newly-open French-Asian restaurant Le PasSage, serves a whole-fried snapper (You can even see the fish’s eyes). The new spot The Charlotte in Knox-Henderson? Check. Tiffany Derry's Radici? You betcha. Like whipped ricotta, we're also here for this.
