Word's been circulating all day that the Arena Football League may be a goner -- at least, for the 2009 season. Though if it disappears for one season, insiders (and outsiders, let's be reasonable) figure there's no way it can claw its way back for a 2010 season. And various news reports have put some of the blame for the potential cancellation at the loafers of Jerry Jones, owner of Your Dallas Desperados: Says here that Ahmad Hawkins, the union representative for the Grand Rapids Rampage, claims that "the owners of the Colorado Crush and Dallas Desperados are the two teams pushing hardest to suspend league operations for 2009 and perhaps resume in 2010."

We've tried calling Desperados PR peeps, but have had no luck. They're still selling season tickets, though -- some, for 10 whole dollars a game. --Robert Wilonsky

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
