That's it at left: Jaume Plensa's Sho, which stands 13 feet tall by 10 feet wide and weighs 660 pounds and appears to enjoy traveling in its spare time. The university announced the acquisition yesterday, noting that it's "the most important acquisition of a work by a living artist into the Meadows collection since the commissioning of [Santiago] Calatrava's Wave in 2001," in the words of museum director Mark Roglán. Sho won't rear its lovely head till October 7, when it goes on permanent display -- outside, in the newly renovated front plaza. Plensa, incidentally, is responsible for my kid's most favoritest piece of artwork ever: Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park, better known as the video monolith that often appears to be spitting at you.
